our origin story
Our co-founders, Dr. Farah Khalid and Dr. Chong Lee Ai, are both paediatricians at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). Their unwavering commitment to holistic paediatric care led to the establishment of the Paediatric Palliative Care Unit at UMMC in 2018 to provide specialist palliative care.
This Paediatric Palliative Care Unit provides a service for patients together with other disciplines. It soon became clear to them there was a need to supplement the services provided, as they believe that children with serious and life-threatening illness deserve the right to live to their potential in a life filled with dignity and comfort.
This belief compelled them to start MyStarfish in the hopes of extending comprehensive specialist care for every child and family who needs it. This care encompasses comfort, emotional support, spiritual care and the chance to live with dignity and joy.
We do everything possible so that every patient who reaches out to us gets everything they need.
We provide specialized, compassionate care to children and families through Music and Play Therapy & Psychological Support. Helping children identify and express emotions and cope with their illness through art, play and music. Using interactive therapy to facilitate children’s goals and quality of life
We offer Family Counselling & Bereavement Support for siblings, parents and caregivers where they need it most, including:● psychosocial guidance and emotional care. ● volunteer educators to families● respite to caregivers
We raise awareness about paediatric palliative care so that more families understand their options and can access essential care, ensuring families know where to turn for help.
