Before I started working with pain and palliative care team, I used to think that patients being referred to the palliative care team are always the terminally ill ones. Then only did I realise that palliative care team does much more than caring for the very ill patients."

"I entered Palliative care posting with a perception that I will be dealing with end of life care for the next three months. I thought it will be about breaking bad news, offering comfort prior to every patient's death, and dealing with patients who have the tag "do not resuscitate" on them. I agree that despite all of the above was a part of Palliative, there were so many other aspects and areas of palliative care that were an eye-opener for me."

"I learned to be present to help families during the final moments of patients, besides managing patients' terminal symptoms...our team also tried our best to accomplish families' or patients' final wishes eg. facilitating the process for the families and relatives to visit. When the last hours are managed well, most patients are comforted at the time of their death, and their families experience a positive first step in their bereavement."

"I learned to listen to the needs of people around me. I learned that curing a patient has its end but caring for them goes a long way. We may not be able to change the outcome, but we can affect the journey of each and every person we care for. Without listening to others, we tend to misjudge or jump to conclusions that will make the conversation less helpful. This will then lead us to being biased. Trying to listen and understand others can help us to be more empathetic towards others. Thank you for the amazing eye-opening experience."
